An educational Series on alternative and integrative medIcine and Healing Practices
I realized not long ago that there is a massive information gap between people and alternative medicine. In my experience alternative medicine has been so powerful in healing not only my body but my mind and spirit as well. So I wanted to create a series on these topics and practices to increase awareness of the healing modalities that are out there, because there is so much out there beyond the doctor’s office. And hopefully you can start to untilize one or more of these practices, especially the ones that speak to you, on your life journey.
As a studying naturopathic medical student, I am curious about how we as humans can work with nature and other ancient and alternative medical practices to boost our health and encourage healing. Unfortunately in our Western culture, we’ve become so disconnected with our bodies and with mother nature that we don’t often notice that something inside us feels ‘off’ until it REALLY feels off. Then we procede to the doctor’s office to receive lab-made medication that usually can only put a bandage over our situation.
I love alternative medicine (Naturopathic medicine falls under this category) for many reasons but one of the most important to me, is that it seeks to find the root cause. Sure, does this process take longer? Yes. Do we have to sit with uncomfortable emotions, feelings, and/or pain before we can dissolve them? Yes. Do we sometimes learn that there’s beauty in the uncomfortable sensaitons of healing, and maybe they won’t go away completely but we can learn to live in harmony? Yes. Is there always an exact timeline for our healing process? No. Is every alternative method I try going to work for me? No.
Alternative medicine recognizes our individualistic nature. Yes, we are all human, but there are many factors that can make your overall health remarkably different from mine, including but not limited to family history, current environment, childhood trauma, occupation, physical activity, stress levels, closeness to nature, exposure to toxins, coping mechanisms, spirituality, mental health, community, support, gender, age, connection to self, and the list goes on and on.
Join me on my instagram @naturaliwellness every first monday of the month to learn more about alternattive healing modalitties. I will be sharing research based facts, case studies, and my own experience with the modalities I have tried.
Get ready to EXPAND YOUR MIND.
